Nestled in the beautiful Wollombi Valley in the lower Hunter Valley, the rolling green pastures of our 100-acre sanctuary is home to more than 200 rescued cows, pigs, turkeys, and other farmed animals, each with an individual story to tell. Their stories of struggle and survival, against all odds, give the public insight into the realities farmed animals face in the modern food system, but also introduce us to inspiring individuals through their heartwarming tales.
As one of the leading farm animal sanctuaries in Australia, we have rescued and cared for hundreds of survivors of cruelty, neglect and abandonment. We are often the last hope for these animals, their last chance at life, just like Sparks here. Our 27-year-old stallion who endured years of neglect and loneliness before his rescue.
These animals are ambassadors. They are changing the hearts and minds of generations.
The sanctuary is tucked away in a peaceful corner of the countryside and includes a varied environment of open fields, woodland, two large dams and a creek running through the property. The sanctuary has everything our resident rescue animals need to live their lives in the most natural way possible. They need never worry again.
From lambs only a few hours old to ponies in their thirties, our residents come to us at different stages in life and from very different backgrounds.
While they each have their own unique story of struggle and survival, they can all live out their days in peace and safety at our sanctuary. Every animal is treated as an individual, with specific needs and care plans. To keep them comfortable and happy, our residents have access to extensive pastures, shelters and a varied environment in which to express natural behaviours.
As well as being a safe space for the animals in our care, the sanctuary environment has been designed to reflect their natural habitat, so that our residents can live happy and fulfilling lives. All the animals at the sanctuary have a name not a number. All are friends, not food.
We pride ourselves on providing an excellent standard of care for our rescued animals. This means not only caring for all of their physical needs (with high-quality food, routine care and veterinary attention) but also providing enrichment to keep their minds ticking.
We often find ourselves spending time helping our pigs build new wallows, installing scratching brushes across the sanctuary for goats, cows and horses to have a good scratch and getting creative with fruits on strings to keep our hens busy.
We could really use your help in maintaining our incredible 100-acre sanctuary to ensure the highest level of care for our amazing animals. Your support means the world to us and every donation goes towards covering on-going expenses that keep our sanctuary running smoothly. Together, we can provide a loving home that our furry friends truly deserve. Will you lend a hoof?
We are planning a new space for our rescued pigs in 2025. A spacious barn near our main paddock to offer indoor comfort and outdoor freedom.
Designed for natural behaviours like rooting and nest-building, it will include flexible enclosures for health care and socialising. Our goal is to create a joyful, safe space for every rescue pig to thrive.
