Dawn

Dawn

Dawn was rescued from drowning in a flooded river when she was just a baby calf. Luckily a true animal hero spotted her struggling in the water, bravely jumped in and pulled her to safety, risking his own life to save hers.

After Dawn’s rescue, he successfully negotiated with the dairy farm owners for her release. He then drove an eight hour round trip to transport Dawn to the sanctuary to recuperate and live her life free from the suffering and cruelty she would have otherwise endured within the dairy industry. Dawn is now thriving. .

Like most calves in the dairy industry, Dawn would have been separated from her mother within days of birth – the majority of female calves are raised to follow their mothers into milk production, while male calves are typically sent to slaughter, just days old. Instead, Dawn found a permanent home at the sanctuary where she could recover from her ordeal and grow up safely and live out her life free from cruelty.

Dawn’s now settled well into sanctuary life, spending her days grazing in the paddocks with other rescued cows. She’s grown from a frightened calf into a confident cow who enjoys exploring the sanctuary grounds and socialising with other residents. Dawn’s rescuer, still keeps in regular contact with her. They have a very special bond.

Rescue date: March 2021
